Artist Cai Ulrich von Platen started a process where he went through his entire photographic archive of photos created 1969 up to 2017.
“Along the way, I realized that the meaning of the photo archive is more complex than just preserving the material for posterity and in a reasonable order. The archive is a place where the archived material, ie the photographs, can go into hay. By hiding them away, letting them sleep in peace, the opportunity arises to forget them as well. This particular fact became important for the entire selection process: Images that are forgotten are surprising to find. Time created the distance that allowed me to forget or displace the motives that in time made me press the trigger. In part, also the private memories that often relate to the situation where the picture was taken. I was almost able to use the same look on my own pictures that I would have used if it was someone else’s pictures.” Cai Ulrich von Platen
This book is a collection of what Cai Ulrich von Platen found to be his best photographs seen in a new perspective, given new context and meaning in book format.
