Mads Holm’s photographic book CIVIL WAR creates a grotesque representation of the reality of our world, and challenges the credibility of photography and its ability to distort the recognisable. The photographs in CIVIL WAR express a cynical approach to believing in what we see. In the photographs real people and places are depicted in a way that creates a new space where a gloomy idea of presence exists. The images have emerged in meetings with both new and well-known places with the intention of turning real situations into abstract stories.
