Krass Clement visited Saint Petersburg a few years before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Født af mørket (Born of darkness) presents an atmosphere of the city and the people of the city. Moving in and out of trains and trams, on stairs and streets in a flickering circuit with people caught in an everyday life that they themselves have no control over. It is an artistic interpretation of a city and its people, where the past seems as much present as the present itself. The book’s narrative forms a circle without beginning and end as a representation of a society closed in on itself, governed by a constant oppression.
