Hjemstavn (Home Region) is not a traditional book about one’s home region, nor is it an idealized tale of provincial life. It is an unsentimental and personal exploration of a specific place: the Skive area in Denmark, the Limfjord, the heath, the landscapes, the family, the bodies, the animals, the archives, and the people who, each in their own way, carry the region within them.
Yet the book is not solely about Skive. It uses a specific location to pose a broader question: How much does the place we come from shape who we become—and what does it actually mean to call a place one’s own?
The photographs range from portraits and landscapes to specific sites, objects, and images from old albums—moving between the documentary, the staged, and the remembered. Together, they create a picture of a region that is not reduced to an idyllic provincial setting or nostalgia, but emerges as something more complex: a place defined by history, intimacy, distance, vulnerability, and pride.
