Hakodate is a city in northern Japan on the island of Hokkaido. In this city, Christer Järeslätt has done night walks with his camera. Järeslätt visited a friend who moved to northern Japan from Tokyo. During a walk, he was struck by a city bathed in light and color. But there was something strange about it all. Large lighted areas in central Hakodate were completely abandoned. The shops were blocked for good and very few lived in the center. But thanks to the light, the city came to life anyway. For ten days he wandered up and down the street, barely seeing another human being, and took photographs.
